what is this attitude that fanfic is just for the young?

My favourite authors have bottle age on them. Long may they keep writing ❤

When I got into fanfic (at 19) it was rare to find someone under 18 doing it

Fanfic was popularized by 20ish women in a time when young teens didn’t know how to work a snail mail zine, e-mail group, or internet message board

Fandom is easier now. It’s been streamlined and you don’t have to find backdoors anymore (and you don’t have to use the family computer which was usually in the living room). But your fandom moms and grannies are still around and doing their thing 

Fandom is way easier, now. I’m from that granny era, too and trust me, waiting for that zine in the mail that took two years to produce, and be on a waiting list for, that was numbered and tracked so it didn’t fall into the wrong hands was some serious spy-level shit, let me tell you.
